Every year, when November begins, people celebrate a Mexican holiday called Dia de los Muertos - The Day of the Dead. It is believed that on this day the spirits of our dearly departed return to us for a visit. In preparation, magnificent altars are assembled in homes, cemeteries and town squares to welcome and honor the dead. Even though it may sound a little spooky, Day of the Dead is a vibrant, joyous celebration. Sugar skulls play an important role in Day of the Dead festivities, They are a sweet and charming gift of appreciation for the living and those whom have passed on. In modern times, sugar skulls adorn more than altars; the charm and significance of sugar skulls has greatly influenced both tattoo art and current fashion.
